Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 1 fresh fig chopped
  • ½ ounce apple juice or apple cider
  • ¼ ounce apple cider vinegar
  • ½ ounce Honey-Cinnamon Syrup {recipe below}
  • Splash of sparkling water

For Honey-Cinnamon Syrup:

  • ¼ cup water
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • Optional: Sliced fig for garnishing

Instructions

  • In a cocktail shaker or a mason jar with a lid, combine the bourbon and chopped fresh figs. Muddle lightly with a muddler or the handle of a wooden spoon. Set aside for about 10 minutes to marinate.
  • Meanwhile, make Honey Syrup: Stir together water, honey and cinnamon in a small saucepan over high heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low and simmer for 1 minute. Remove from heat and let cool for about 10 minutes.
  • When you're ready to make your cocktail, add the apple juice, vinegar and honey syrup. Put the lid on the shaker or mason jar and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds.
  • Strain into 2 ice-filled cocktail glasses and top with a splash of sparkling water. {Or strain out ice cubes and leave the fig pieces in it if desired.}
  • Garnish with a slice of fig.

Notes

This recipe was adapted from an idea contributed by Tony Licudine.
*If you don't have access to fresh figs, you can use a tablespoon of fig jam in their place. You may want to reduce the amount of honey added as fig jam will contain sugar. Skip the marinating part and proceed with the directions.
