Materials

  • ½ cup turbinado sugar*
  • cup rolled oats processed to desired consistency
  • ¼ to ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey
  • ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon Barlean's Coconut Oil**

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, combine all of the ingredients except for the honey and coconut oil.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat the coconut oil and raw honey until liquid, about 20-30 seconds. Pour over the dry ingredients and stir until they are fully moistened.
  • Scoop the mixture into a jar or container with an airtight lid. Keep in a cool, dry place and use for exfoliating hands, body and face.***

Notes

*Turbinado, or raw, sugar has the largest crystals and is best for feet and rough patches, whereas white granulated and brown sugar crystals are less abrasive and better for the face or sensitive skin. Any of these should work, but you may need to play with the ratios to create the right consistency.
**I used the Culinary Coconut Oil because it doesn't smell like coconut, but if you prefer a coconut smell you can use the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.
***This mixture should keep without refrigeration for some time, but toss it if it begins to develop mold or smells off. If the mixture solidifies, simply submerge the sealed container in a bit of warm water to help melt the oil again and it should become easy to apply.
Suggestion: Keep a small spoon or scoop next to the jar, then using a small amount, rub the mixture gently into your skin in a circular motion to exfoliate, then rinse off with warm water.
