    Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookie Sugar Scrub

This cinnamon oatmeal sugar scrub is the perfect way to exfoliate and wash the long day awayDisclosure: This post was sponsored by Barlean’s, as a part of my ongoing partnership as part of their Blogger Team. As always, all opinions here are my own.

I didn't meant to take a break, but I did. I needed one.

I baked approximately 583,916,021,573 cookies in the span of 4 days, and then I Christmased until I could Christmas no more. No one should ever do those things back to back on purpose, take my word for it.

I kneaded and rolled and sprinkled and baked and washed and dried so darn much that the skin on my hands felt a little like the scratchy side of Velcro in the days following Cookiepalooza 2017. I'm still working on getting them back to normal.

As it turns out, the very same ingredients that got my skin into this mess have been helping them out of it, too. No need to take a trip down the beauty aisle; the grocery store has everything you need to keep your skin glowing and fresh.

If you've got a pantry full of leftover baking supplies like I do, but feel like you can't manage to cram one more cookie into your body post-holiday, then I think you'll appreciate this nifty little DIY skincare solution I whipped up in the kitchen: Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookie Sugar Scrub.

    Because if we can't end the year by eating more cookies, then we should at least rub ourselves down with the essence of them, right? {That doesn't sound weird at all.}

An all-natural cinnamon oatmeal sugar scrub is made with sweet ingredients that will exfoliate your skin, leaving you feeling refreshed

Simple ingredients like Barlean's Coconut Oil, sugar, raw honey and rolled oats are combined to form a perfectly delectable, all-natural sugar scrub that smells like dessert and makes your skin silky smooth.

Did you know that coconut oil has both moisturizing and antimicrobial properties that make it an excellent addition to a skincare routine for both your face and body? You can certainly rub it right on as-is from the jar, but I really liked the idea of adding other cookie-esque ingredients that have additional benefits, not to mention make it smell like a bakery treat.

This cinnamon oatmeal sugar scrub is a perfect gift for yourself or a loved one!

Depending on the level of abrasiveness you're looking for, you can choose either turbinado sugar {largest crystals}, granulated sugar {moderately abrasive} or brown sugar {softest for sensitive skin or face} that help buff and slough off dry skin. Aside from making a hearty breakfast, oatmeal is naturally soothing and is often used in treatments for itchy skin conditions, calming inflammation. The addition of cinnamon brings blood and nutrients to the skin's surface {it's said to have a plumping effect that can supposedly help make wrinkles less noticeable. Score!}, while raw honey can help promote healing.

Who knew that all of the ingredients you use to make one of your favorite cookies can also be used to beautify! P.S. Craving an oatmeal cookie now? I've got you covered with a recipe you can actually nibble on.

If you ask me, ending the year smelling like a cookie isn't a bad thing at all. If anything, it sounds like a good way to guarantee a sweet start to 2018!

I hope you've been able to take some time to slow down and enjoy this special time of year in ways that are meaningful to you, and I wish you nothing but the best in the year ahead. Thank you for joining me in yet another mouthwatering year of memories!

    Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookie Sugar Scrub

If you need some self-care time after a long day, whip up this all-natural cinnamon oatmeal sugar scrub and exfoliate the long day away, leaving you feeling refreshed!
    Prep Time5 mins
    Active Time1 min
    Total Time6 mins
Yield: 2 cups of body scrub
    Author: The Kitchen Prep

    Materials

    • ½ cup turbinado sugar*
    • ⅓ cup rolled oats processed to desired consistency
    • ¼ to ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1 teaspoon raw honey
    • ¼ cup + 1 tablespoon Barlean's Coconut Oil**

    Instructions

    • In a medium bowl, combine all of the ingredients except for the honey and coconut oil.
    • In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat the coconut oil and raw honey until liquid, about 20-30 seconds. Pour over the dry ingredients and stir until they are fully moistened.
    • Scoop the mixture into a jar or container with an airtight lid. Keep in a cool, dry place and use for exfoliating hands, body and face.***

    Notes

*Turbinado, or raw, sugar has the largest crystals and is best for feet and rough patches, whereas white granulated and brown sugar crystals are less abrasive and better for the face or sensitive skin. Any of these should work, but you may need to play with the ratios to create the right consistency.
**I used the Culinary Coconut Oil because it doesn't smell like coconut, but if you prefer a coconut smell you can use the Organic Virgin Coconut Oil.
***This mixture should keep without refrigeration for some time, but toss it if it begins to develop mold or smells off. If the mixture solidifies, simply submerge the sealed container in a bit of warm water to help melt the oil again and it should become easy to apply.
Suggestion: Keep a small spoon or scoop next to the jar, then using a small amount, rub the mixture gently into your skin in a circular motion to exfoliate, then rinse off with warm water.
