    This Grapefruit Ginger Cocktail makes a refreshing elixir with a mildly spicy zing. Fresh squeezed grapefruit juice lends citrusy sweetness to the drink, while ginger beer gives the unassuming beverage effervescence and a touch of heat. Mix it up to sip on for a special celebration or a weekend treat!

    Disclosure: This post is sponsored by Winter Sweetz Texas Red Grapefruit. As always, all opinions here are my own!

    I'm quite comfortable with most types of baking, and can usually find my footing with cooking, too. But when it comes to mixology, I tend to leave it to the pros and pour myself a glass of wine when I'm seeking an adult beverage to enjoy. Perhaps it's the overwhelming amount of possibilities, but I freeze up when I'm given the task of cocktail creation.

    A few weeks ago I co-hosted a bridal shower and was given free reign over the decor, desserts and drinks. While the first two categories came together with ease {if you consider approximately 32.6 trips to the craft store with a two-year-old in tow "easy"}, I found myself at a loss in the beverage department. When all was said and done, I mixed together an easy sangria and called it a day though I had visions of expertly-mixed signature cocktails being passed on elegant trays. {Someone's been reading one too many entertaining magazines.}

    Of course, missing a chance to create something really spectacular {though the sangria was a hit} left me with an urge to redeem myself, and the arrival of a big box of Winter Sweetz Texas red grapefruits at my front door gave me just the inspiration I needed to forge ahead. When you're starting out with a great base like sweet, citrusy grapefruit juice, you don't need a whole lot more to make something outstanding.

    I'm smitten with the vibrant color {not to mention flavor} of Winter Sweetz, and I was pleased to find that their juice is just as gorgeous. The blush color of this cocktail is so stunning for a feminine event like a bridal shower {"Care for a 'Blushing Bride', anyone?"} or a spring brunch -- but don't let that stop you from serving it to the guys! My husband was the taste-tester for this rosy concoction and he gave it the thumbs up without hesitation. {Real men drink pink!}

    While the demure shade of this drink might give the impression that the flavor is lacking gusto, the addition of spicy ginger beer and an extra citrus punch from orange liqueur bring out the sassier side of the otherwise unassuming cocktail. Garnish it with a perfectly segmented slice of grapefruit {find out how to do that here}, and it will be party-ready!

      I am not big on drinking but have found that grapefruit mixed into a drink is one of my favorites.

        Hi Alicia! When I tested this cocktail, I actually tried it without any liquor the first time and it was still great and refreshing! Try adding a little extra seltzer water to replace the vodka. Perfect spring mocktail!
