Indian-Inspired Butter Chicken Dip is an exotic twist on the ever popular Buffalo Chicken Dip bursting with fragrant spices and creamy yogurt!
Disclosure: I have an ongoing partnership with Stonyfield Organic as a member of their Clean Plate Club and received these products for review. As always, the opinions here are all my own!
Game days sure aren't what they used to be just a handful of years ago. Having attended a "football school", being properly taught how to gear up for a sporting event came right along with earning the diploma. We'd start early and go hard, whether we were tailgating outside of the stadium before the game or watching from a sports bar.
After graduating {but before kids} the tradition continued, spending almost every Saturday with friends who were just as spirited, and having all of Sunday to recuperate from our enthusiasm. Ahh... youth.
These days, we still watch our team during college football Saturdays.... but usually from our couch or with a group of friends who have also entered the wonderful world of parenthood. While the gatherings are still enjoyable, they're also filled with tending to little ones, which means less worrying about keeping the beer cold, and more concern about keeping the kids alive. It's ok. We had our fun.
While we may not be doing keg stands and playing flip cup {which is probably a good thing because we definitely don't recover as quickly these days}, I like to think that we're teaching the next generation a little about how game day should be done. Luckily, lip-smacking game day eats are a tradition that can live on no matter how preoccupied we may be with adult responsibilities!
With Super Bowl just around the corner, game day buffets around the country will be filled with the usual: Chips, queso, guacamole and Buffalo Chicken Dip galore. Did I rattle off your menu plans? Are you ready to try something new?
My friends at Stonyfield Organic and Simply Organic Spices "teamed" up this month and sent me some products that inspired me to make game day a little more global!
Indian-Inspired Butter Chicken Dip. Because, we love you Buffalo, but even our taste buds deserve an exotic vacation every now and then!
Stonyfield's newest Double Cream Whole Milk Yogurt makes this luscious dip super creamy {without the typical cream cheese or sour cream} while Simply Organic's Garam Masala and Cumin bring home the flavor with bold spices.
{Note: Because I'm tight with Stonyfield, I got a sneak preview of this new item sent straight to my door, and I don't think it's available everywhere just yet. BUT! You can use their Whole Milk Greek Yogurt in place of the Double Cream, and it shouldn't be a problem. Keep a lookout for the real thing, though... it's gooood.}
Have vegetarian friends? Try subbing out the chicken for sauteed, chopped portobellos for a "meaty" bite, or using meatless "chicken" products instead so everyone can enjoy! Serve the dip hot with Naan chips or regular naan cut into bite-sized pieces.
With game day food this good, you won't even mind making sure your half-pints are taking a potty break during halftime. 😉
Indian-Inspired Butter Chicken Dip
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons butter
- ½ cup chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic minced or grated
- 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger {or ¼ teaspoon ground ginger}
- ½ teaspoon Simply Organic Cumin
- ½ teaspoon Simply Organic Garam Masala
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- ½ cup canned petite diced tomato {not drained}
- 1 cooked chicken breast roughly chopped or shredded {I used one from a store bought rotisserie chicken}
- ¼ cup Stonyfield Organic Double Cream Whole Milk Yogurt
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and butter in a small skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, garlic and ginger and saute until the onion begins to soften and becomes translucent.
- Stir in cumin and garam masala and cook for about a minute. Add tomato paste and stir to combine, then add diced tomato and stir, scraping up bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Stir chopped or shredded chicken into the tomato mixture. Cook for another minute or so, just to heat through.
- Remove from heat and stir in yogurt until well incorporated. Scoop into a serving dish and garnish with chopped cilantro if desired. Serve with naan chips.
